Evangelicals lost the battle because too many fell for the diversity con job and the misquote of scripture to love the sinner and accept their sins because they are human and need understood. Sinners need the constant conviction provided by the Holy Spirit to go and sin no more.
Any other approach is approving of sinful nature and neglecting the message of salvation through Christ.
